Emotional Intelligence?

Gone are the days of “It’s just how I am?” “Don’t like it? Rough” Now, more than ever, people are starting to understand in today’s society that kindness, empathy, and truth is what drives others.

But what exactly is emotional intelligence? *The capacity to be aware of, control, and express one’s emotions, and to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically.*

By no means does this indicate being a pushover, as most would assume. Controlling emotions can be well…emotional. Since pretty much every human is in one shape or another guided by emotions, taking the time to truly analyze your decisions, and then act accordingly will always be the way to go. You can never go wrong with being kind to another human. Kindness will always win in the end.

However, being arrogant and conceited is the equivalent of being rude to a waiter. Is this really the look you want? Do you want others assuming what your character is? Like it or not, you can only hide who you truly are for so long.

Now is the time to readjust your thinking. Every person makes a choice. Firmly choosing to be rude, ignorant, condescending, and unpleasant is a choice. Take the time to analyze why you react in a certain way. Ask yourself: “why I am doing this?” Start small and watch how your life actually changes.

You may think by being brash and pushy this in some way makes you an alpha. Nice guys finish last, right? Wrong. You may start off winning the race, but life is a marathon and kindness will always cross the finish line first.
